After 17 weeks of production, our new Columbus Aeronauts hot air balloon is almost ready for delivery from Cameron Balloons in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Seventeen weeks is a long time to wait for something you know is going to be special. Custom hot air balloons don’t come off an assembly line — every envelope is designed, cut, and assembled to spec, built to carry passengers safely and turn heads on the ground. The anticipation is part of the process, and delivery day makes it all worth it.

Here are a few photos from the balloon’s production over the past few months, showing the step-by-step process.

PHASE 1: Cutting the Special Balloon Material and Construction of the Passenger Basket

PHASE 2: Stitching together all of the different cuts to construct the custom-designed balloon.

The Passenger Basket is beginning to take shape as well.

PHASE 3: FINISHING TOUCHES on BALLOON and BASKET

NEXT PHASE: THE TEST HOT AIR INFLATION.
